The World Cup edition in 1962 was held in South America – in Chile - and was won again by Brazil's national team, which defended its title of the FIFA World Cup champions in 1958. In the final match Brazil defeated Czechoslovakia with 3:1. Eight of the players that had won the World Cup with their teams four years ago, played in the winning team.
At the qualifier stage, FIFA World Cup teams from 56 countries participated. Interesting issue was that the former World Cup champion and the host country's team did not participate in the 1962 edition.
A big surprise was the drop off of the former second best team of Sweden and the winner of bronze medals France.
